GF2 BRANOrol (VCI-Corrosion Protection Oil)

Characteristics

BRANOrol is a mineral-based corrosion protection oil that does not contain solvents, waxes, lanolin, silicones or ash-building inorganic additives.

BRANOrol protects in two ways:

  • as a protective film of oil on the surface of the metal (contact protection),
  • by releasing tiny traces of volatile protective substances from the surface of the oil into the surrounding atmosphere according to the VCI principle (Volatile Corrosion Inhibitors). A lasting protective atmosphere is built up in sealed cavities.

Scope of protection

Specially developed for protecting ferrous metals. If copper, brass or bronze are present, they must be covered and saturated once with BRANOrol at the outset of the preservation process. If magnesium, cadmium, zinc or lead are present, a certain amount of material erosion is to be expected.

Protection duration: Cavity protection (VCI protection): is dependent on the tightness of the system‘s seal; provided the cavity is comprehensively sealed, there is no time limit on protection duration.

Oil film: approx. 500 hours (steel 1.0038, test atmosphere DIN 50 017 - KFW).

Application and dosage

BRANOrol can be successfully employed to protect cavities in transmissions, pumps, engines, cylinders, pipelines or tanks, during transport and storage of newly manufactured units and also for protection of machinery used seasonally (farming machinery, snowploughs, boats etc.). It is not suited for use in cavities in vehicle bodies.

BRANOrol is simply poured or sprayed into the cavity that needs protecting. Then all openings are sealed as tightly as is permitted.

Dosage: General use for 1 m3: 300 ml of BRANOrol for every m3 of cavity. (Please contact us for advice on larger applications.)

BRANOrol is to be used exclusively for the stipulated applications (packaging/ preservation of metal parts susceptible to damage). We accept no liability for consequential damage resulting from improper use.

Available product sizes

Packaging drums with volumes of 10, 20, 50 and 200 litres.

Compatibility

Compatibility testing is recommended for paints and plastics.

Rubber: rubber types that are resistant to mineral oils (motor, transmission and hydraulic oils) are also resistant to BRANOrol. Swelling might be marginally greater.

Other operating fluids: Can be mixed with mineral-based grease and operating oils (only of interest when BRANOrol has been drained out of a cavity to be filled with another oil. BRANOrol additives in operating oils are not usually recommended, because of the risk of interfering with the oil‘s specific value). Cannot or can only partly be mixed with synthetic oils. Cannot be mixed with fire-proof hydraulic “oils” (glycol-water mixtures).

Preservative removal

Please allow the small amount of BRANOrol used to flow out completely before refilling with operating oil.

Preservative removal

Please allow the small amount of BRANOrol used to flow out completely before refilling with operating oil.

Metal components coated in BRANOrol can be cleaned using the usual cleaning and degreasing procedures.

Storage

Do not store in direct sunlight. The drums must be kept permanently closed.

Shelf life

200 l metal drum:

  • Factory sealed: indefinite
  • After opening: 12 months

Plastic canister:

  • Factory sealed: 24 months
  • After opening: 6 months

Disposal

Waste BRANOrol 32/10 falls under the special monitoring category of the German „Kreislaufwirtschafts- und Abfallgesetz” (Federal Waste Ordinance) and is also subject to this law’s other relevant regulations.

It can be introduced into a suitable energy recovery plant or disposal process.

Work safety

BRANOrol is not a hazardous formulation as defined in the hazardous materials ordinance. Further information can be found in our Material Safety Data Sheet.
