GP2 BRANOfol M 3 (VCI-Corrosion Protection Film)

Characteristics

BRANOfol M 3 is a transparent, bluish special polyethylene film; it is nitrite- and amine-free and features active VCI corrosion protection on both sides. It is waterproof, weldable and suitable for use in automated packaging processes and for bag manufacturing.

The film continually releases small amounts of active substances into the atmosphere inside the packaging, meaning that metal surfaces that are not directly in contact with the film also benefit from protection. The distance between film and the surrounding metal surfaces will depend on the packaging volume and the amount of time needed for a protective atmosphere to build up - 10 cm can be used as a rule of thumb. Depending on the packaging volume, it can take up to 20 hours for a sufficient protective atmosphere to develop.

Scope of protection

Steel, cast iron (limited, only on contact); reliable corrosion protection for galvanized steel, nickel, aluminium, chrome, zinc, and copper and its alloys. We recommend a compatibility test for cadmium and magnesium alloys.

Application

In order to get the best out of VCI BRANOfol M 3 films, the packaging should create a closed space when complete. Steps should be taken to prevent water from penetrating the packaging and reaching the packaged goods.

Please also bear in mind the other basic rules for secure VCI protection: The surfaces to be protected must be dry and free from corrosion-promoting residues such as finger sweat, aggressive detergent-
based substances and others. Acids and strong alkaline can also affect the corrosion protection system. If there‘s doubt, we recommend carrying out a compatibility test.

The protected materials should be kept away from direct contact with wood or acidic materials. It is also important to make sure that relative atmospheric humidity is kept low and that there is no atmospheric contamination (make sure that there is no wood in the packaging).

BRANOfol M 3 is suitable for thermal impulse welding and seam sealing (up to a film thickness of 100 µm).

If you want to package components that are heavily oiled, we recommend using unprinted films. This is because there is a risk that the oil might cause the print to come off.

BRANOfol VCI products are to be used exclusively for the stipulated applications (packaging/preservation of metal parts susceptible to damage). We accept no liability for consequential damage resulting from improper use.
