BRANOseal is a corrugated cardboard that is open on one side, whose B-flute is refined with a cold-sealable coating. Additional flute thicknesses are available on request. The coating adheres only to itself – not to the packaged product – and does not require increased sealing temperatures. The corrugated cardboard can be sealed securely at room temperature simply by applying light pressure.

1. Keyfacts

Key facts about BRANOseal at a glance

  • Self-adhesive corrugated cardboard with a cold-sealable coating – adheres only to itself, not to the packaged product
  • Sealing without tape or strapping – the coating works at room temperature with light pressure
  • Combines sealing and cushioning in a single material – additional protection against impacts and pressure marks
  • Recyclable or suitable for energy recovery – a paper-based alternative to bubble wrap

What is self-adhesive corrugated cardboard?

Self-adhesive corrugated cardboard such as BRANOseal combines the stability of classic corrugated cardboard with a cold-sealable coating that provides an independent sealing solution. Instead of packaging tape, strapping or other additional sealing materials, the coating itself bonds the packaging along its open edges. This is made possible by a cold-sealable paper that only adheres to itself and not to the packaged goods – an important difference from conventional adhesives, which bond to almost any surface.

How does the cold-sealable coating of BRANOseal work?

The coating of BRANOseal is based on the principle of cold sealing: two coated surfaces bond together under light pressure, without the need for heat-sealing technology or additional sealing materials. This sets BRANOseal apart from heat-sealable materials, which rely on heat-sealing technology and the corresponding equipment. Because the bond forms at room temperature, BRANOseal can be used directly at the packing table or in automated packaging lines, without adding extra tempering or activation steps to the process.

Advantages of BRANOseal over tape and bubble wrap

BRANOseal combines two functions in a single material: sealing and cushioning. Because the corrugated cardboard seals itself, there is no need to reach for packaging tape or strapping – this saves a work step and reduces the amount of material needed per pack. At the same time, the fluted structure provides a cushioning effect that offers additional protection against impacts and pressure marks.

As a paper-based alternative to bubble wrap, BRANOseal can help reduce the use of additional packaging materials.

Applications and use cases

Self-adhesive corrugated cardboard is used wherever packaging needs to be quick, straightforward and free of additional sealing materials. Typical applications include:

  • Mail order: BRANOseal is suitable for packaging books, DVDs and games, which are often packed in high volumes and with short processing times.
  • Furniture industry: Surface-sensitive chair and table legs can be wrapped gently, without adhesive residue or scratches caused by sealing materials.
  • Vehicle, pram and toy production: Painted frames, rods and similar components benefit from the cushioning effect of the corrugated cardboard combined with its self-sealing closure.

BRANOseal is also a practical packaging solution for private households, for example when moving house or shipping personal items.

Sustainability and recycling

The coating is designed so that the corrugated cardboard can be recycled or used for energy recovery. Combined with its paper-based fluted structure and good recyclability, this makes BRANOseal a packaging solution that fits well into a circular economy.
